HMG Comments on Penthouse Boutique’s Controversial Donation

Horizon Media Group (HMG), the parent company of the Penthouse Boutique, has issued a statement on the recent controversy surrounding its donation to the Live Oaks School.

Last week a member of the Rock Wall Committee called Penthouse Boutique to request a donation. The original request was for $100, but upon further inquiry, the store was told that the project was $800 short of its goal. Since HMG said it "strives to be a good neighbor" in the numerous communities in which it does business, it offered to cover the entire $800 deficit.

The school has recently stated that the Penthouse Boutique donation will not be accepted. HMG said that it donates tens of thousands of dollars annually to numerous charities, many of which are for children. This is the first time that it has ever had an organization refuse a donation.

“Frankly, we are surprised and saddened by the school’s comments,” the company’s statement said. “Ultimately, we just want to help the kids and community, and despite the recent controversy, we still welcome other charitable organizations in the community to approach us.”

HMG said that if the school persists in not accepting the donation, it asks its customers, local businesses and the good citizens of Milford, “especially those who have been so vocal in their condemnation of our gesture, to step up to the plate and make a donation.”
