Group Pickets Adult Video Store

A group that recently complained to the city about a window display at a Victoria’s Secret store has also begun picketing an adult video store.

The group, which picketed the Intimate Ideas adult video store along Grand River Avenue and Cross Street last Friday, is now pushing the city to close the shop, the Daily Press & Argus reported.

Robin Blaszak, a member of a local residents’ group, said her group is urging local residents to protest against the store which she says is indecent.

But when asked if she had been inside the store, Blazak said: “Are you kidding? I don’t have to commit murder to know its wrong.”

The store owner, who declined to identify himself, told the newspaper that the protest is a great advertisement for his shop.

According to the city, officials had originally denied a license application to open the shop, but ultimately approved it as part of a court settlement after the shop owner sued to city on the grounds that its denial was a violation of his right to free speech.

The settlement allows the shop to carry adult materials so long as it is not more than 20 percent of the store’s total merchandise. The remaining merchandise must be lingerie, the agreement says.
