LOS ANGELES—According to Exile Distribution's Howard Levine, sales of the original Taboo series, which he says have been bestsellers since their release in the 1980s, have seen renewed interest following the recent airing of the Showtime documentary The Greatest Adult Movies of All Time, which was produced by Paul Fishbein and Darren Roberts through their Plausible Films banner, and which prominently featured the Kirdy Stevens-directed series among other reknowned adult productions.
"With the release of the Showtime piece, my phone has been constantly ringing with orders for these titles," said Levine. "These were all shot on film except number 6, which is unheard of today."
About the respected series, Levine added, "There were nine movies made by Stevens, when he was indicted by the Federal Government. All titles were found to be not obscene by the courts. Stevens decided not to make any more movies after that. The judge mentioned he thought the movies were vile, and did not like the content, but not obscene.
"Steve Stevens, Kirdy’s son, has taken over the company since his dad passed away," he continued. "After 30 years of doing his own distribution, he signed a deal with Exile to sell the movies on all platforms. The first month, January, we ran out of 1,000 copies of each, at a very high price. I was personally shocked. These movies are a must-have for every retailer out there, they put them up, and they sell like crazy. I am also very happy to announce that Steve is currently in production for another Taboo title, which is way long overdue."
Clearly enthused about the prospect of a new Taboo title, Levine said of the Stevens scion, "Steve is the only guy who could actually make anything remotely close to what his dad did, as he has been working in the business with him all these years.
"2015 is starting out to be a great year," he added.
