Gloria Leonard comments on the Al Goldstein-Lynn Redgrave story that appeared [3/19]

Lynn Redgrave story that appeared [3/19].

Leonard: "Some years ago, John Clark showed up at a NIGHT OF THE STARS Dinner/Dance with a hot little redhead on his arm and was seated at my table. I was asked not to mention it to Lynn, if it ever came up.

Evening over, fade out; fade in, the next morning. My phone is ringing and it is Lynn Redgrave inquiring if I know where her husband is since she learned that he was seated at my table. I told her he had left before I did [which was true] and that I did not know his whereabouts [also true]. I nevertheless felt terribly embarrassed for a star of such stature to have to be calling around to find her fat, alcoholic old man!

And Al Goldstein, my dear friend who I suppose felt put-on-the-spot by her, had given Lynn my phone number. She's such a lady and so polite that about an hour after the first call, she phoned me again to let me know that John had told her he was too tired to drive and had pulled over by the side of the road to sleep - sadly, she believed the disrespectful dork! I'm so glad she's finally seen the light and has unloaded this free-loading louse. My fingers are crossed for her to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 'Gods and Monsters.' "
