Give Me Some Sugar

Sam Sugar, the one-time director of sales and marketing for DHD Media is returning to the adult realm after a brief hiatus with a new name and a new venture—SugarBank.

While the full scope of SugarBank is being kept under wraps, the initial details sound awfully damn exciting. Sugar, who has rebranded himself under the alias, says SugarBank will change the way people buy and sell content.

“Content producers should be thinking about it as a new model, not a new competitor. If they’re publishers SugarBank will be Amazon, which is a channel, more than Penguin, which is a competitor,” Sugar tells AVNOnline.com. “Most importantly, SugarBank will be able to do things that existing websites just can’t.”

“SugarBank is being designed to be as easy to use as an iPod and using it to sell content will be free. Integrating a number of payment, distribution, and web technologies, SugarBank will make buying and selling adult media cheaper, simpler, and more profitable than it ever has been,” he says on the SugarBank site, which is also being used as an adult marketing and PR blog.

The blog contains marketing and PR tips and performer interviews, which shed some light on the do’s and don’ts of the industry, rather than being performer promotional vehicles.

As Sugar says, it’s aimed at people who are trying to get into the industry but don’t know how, performers who want professional marketing advice but can’t afford it, and veterans who want to do more with their content but aren’t sure what.

“I’m going to pack the blog with interesting, pertinent information that’s worth money. I want it to be of such clear value to people with adult websites that it’s a no-brainer read,” Sugar says.

“It’s not another ‘adventures in the sex-trade’ deal about me and my life. It’s business oriented—how to get onto Howard Stern, how to deal with a major news crew, how to name a website, etc.”

As for the next step in the development of SugarBank, Sugar is looking for beta testers. Those who are attracted to the blog as a resource may also be attracted to the SugarBank idea, he said.
