CHATSWORTH, Calif.—In accordance with its monthly charity program, Girlfriends Films is donating $1,000 to Lambda Legal Foundation on behalf of adult performer Lily Cade.
The May donation is the second monthly donation in the charity program's new format. In April, performer/director Melissa Monet's chosen charity, Planned Parenthood, received an equal donation. Lambda Legal is a non-profit charity committed to achieving full recognition of LGBT civil rights through impact litigation, education and advocacy.
Lily Cade is a lesbian porn star and director. Her feature debut, Art School Dykes, recently received an honorable mention at the Feminist Porn Awards, and she's working on a movie for Girlfriends Films which features real lesbian couples. Lily is an aggressive and passionate performer who loves what she does.
"I selected Lambda Legal because I'm a lesbian," Cade explained, "so I obviously care about LGBT rights on a personal level. Girlfriends Films has numerous lesbian and queer fans, and I'm happy I can help them participate in the protection of LGBT rights."
"Lambda Legal is fighting in the courts for people like me and my wife to have access to job protection, equal marriage, hospital visitation rights and more," she continued. "When Prop 8 became a part of the California Constitution, Lambda Legal was a part of the team defending the validity of the marriages which occurred in the interim between the original Supreme Court decision of marriage equality and the passing of the proposition taking it away. One of those still-valid marriages is mine."
"As a leading producer of lesbian adult entertainment, we understand the importance of being active in the LGBT community," added Girlfriends Films Vice President Moose. "We love Lily's selection of Lambda Legal. For decades, the organization has been on the front lines of the fight for civil rights. Helping progressive charities like Lambda is exactly why our program was formed."
Each month, Girlfriends Films selects an adult performer from received entries and makes a $1,000 donation in her name to her specified charity. The only condition is that performers must choose from one of the organizations receiving a "B+" rating or better from the American Institute of Philanthropy.
Girlfriends Films has a long history of charitable contributions, having donated over $20,000 in 2010 alone. The company recently restructured its charity program from an annual end-of-year donation to an ongoing, monthly program. Any Girlfriends Films performers interested in participating may apply by emailing the following information to [email protected]: name, AIP charity of choice, reason(s) for selecting the charity. Chosen performers will be asked to submit a personal photo depicting the performer engaged with the charity, the charity's mission, or a similar charitable act. The photo will be used for promotional purposes.
Lily Cade's movies for Girlfriends Films include Women Seeking Women: Vol. 66, Women Seeking Women: Vol. 67 and the Girls in White 2011 series.
