Friend Unveils New AmaWare XP

Over a year after he escaped a bizarre legal case—263 simple assault charges involving local police whom he tried to enlist to stop a former co-worker breaking into their e-mail—AmaWare XP mastermind Dan Friend has unwrapped version 3.0 of the adult search engine and online community software.

"The future of online porn entertainment is here," Friend said in a promotional note advancing the new version, which retains both the resemblance to Microsoft Windows XP and the usability and interface style of America Online.

"AmaWare XP Version 3.0 is online porn software, which gives users access to millions of free images, thousands of online movies, chat, personals and much, much more," Friend continued in the promotional note. "The easy to use interface is similar to that of AOL. Every feature of this one-of-a kind software is gear toward providing the user an easy and enjoyable online adult experience, free of pop-up ads and spyware."

Version 3.0's ramped-up features include a messenger program letting you chat with AOL, MSN, ICQ, and Yahoo instant messaging friends without leaving AmaWare XP; and, new servers continuously updating an already large database of images and films covering all topics and tastes. The program also added a built-in Web browser to keep you in touch with your favourite Websites while you're in AmaWare XP.

Friend said he's particularly high on the new built-in image viewer, Version 3.0's viewer allowing you to click images quickly and save them in the viewer. "Image viewing is a lot easier to do," he said, "when you do not have to keep clicking the back button."

The new version also includes online porn video games, with a game library growing considerably since AmaWare XP's original 2003-04 premiere, as well as improvements in the familiar Webcam server, chat rooms, online personals, party drink recipes, and other features.

"We've hit over 38,000 subscriptions on Version 3, and that doesn't include any conversions from (versions) 1 and 2 yet, we're going to disable them in the next few weeks," Friend told AVNOnline.com April 13. "Version 2 people who have it, it still works and operates the same, but Version 3 is really streamlined, and people who have converted from 2 say the speed difference is about five times more.

"You can't believe it," he continued, referring both to the early reception for the new version and the beefed-up features, the porn game library in particular. "We've got a nice library of games, and if you go to MyPornGames.com, you can see the screenshots of all the game. We're getting a lot of attention from Howard Stern, and that's the game plan, we're going on the Stern show (soon). And the games are built toward the kind of things he already has on the show. That's what got us the buzz for Howard Stern."

Version 3's low monthly service fee, $3.99 per month, will find 20 percent of those revenues donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. "Basically, our belief is that we want to give back to somebody," Friend said. "We're doing pretty damn good with Version 3, and it's not all about the money. This business is fun for us. And they are the only organisation that doesn’t keep the money, they give it back out into the community, to people who can't afford the mammograms, the medical expenses, the chemo."

Friend also said that he doesn't plan to pursue something he contemplated after the resolution of his battle with the local police over a year ago. He and his wife, Linda, pondered whether to sue over the case, which tied the couple up for over a year and a half and delayed the launch of the original AmaWare XP and concurrent AmaVoyeur programs.

"They're leaving me alone, so we're not going to do a thing," Friend said. "They're totally leaving me alone. They're actually cordial to Linda, she ran into them in a flood here and one cop actually helped her out, so I don't want to open a can of worms up with this. I'm doing what I do, and they'll do what they do, and so long as we don't cross paths again we’re fine with each other."
