Free Speech Coalition Elects 2005 Board of Directors

Ballots will be handed out for an election for six seats on the Free Speech Coalition’s Board of Directors at the organization’s general membership meeting this week, but the winners of the election won't be known until January 6, 2005.

Each member of the FSC Board of Directors serves a two-year term before facing reelection.

Five FSC board incumbents are running for reelection on December 2, although one board member has opted not to run again after serving two consecutive two-year terms.

“This is an important election for the industry,” newly appointed FSC executive director, Michelle L. Freridge said. “The 2005 Board of Directors strategic plan will impact the industry over the next five years, building on the industry’s increased profile in mainstream culture.”

Ballots will be handed out to current members during registration at the FSC general membership meeting at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, California on Thursday, December 2, 2004.

Ballots must be mailed in, as the votes are counted by an independent auditor to ensure the integrity of the electorial process.

The following day ballots will be mailed out to members who are not able to attend the general membership meeting.

FSC board incumbents include Kim Airs from the Grand Opening!: Adult boutiques; Adam Glasser, owner of Seymore Butts Home Video; Sid Grief, CEO of AAA News; Joan Irvine, Executive Director of Adult Sites Against Child Pornography (ASACP); Bill Murphy, owner of Fairvilla Video; Nick Orlandino, CEO of Pipedream Products, and Julie Stewart, Co-owner of SportsSheets.

Members up for re-election include Marina Pacific CEO Nick Boyias, First Amendment attorney Jeffrey J. Douglas, veteran adult producer/distributor Mara Epstein, AVN Senior Editor Mark Kernes, and First Amendment attorney Reed Lee.

Nominees for 2005 include Brittany Andrews, a well-known adult performer, director, producer, and activist; Spike Goldberg, CEO of New Destiny Internet Group; Gary Kremen, owner of Sex.com; Morgan Sommer, co-owner of Cybersocket Inc. & Bionic Pixels LLC, and Jerry Westland, adult club owner and Association of Club Executives (ACE) liaison.

Former ACE president, Mike Ocello of the PT’s Showclub chain, has completed two years of service on the Board of Directors in and has declined to run for another term.

The winners of the election will be announced in Las Vegas on January 6 during the FSC's annual membership meeting, which will be held at the Mandalay Bay this year.

The election isn’t the only aspect of the general meeting – there will also be a presentation by First Amendment attorney Jeffrey Douglas on the newly expanded federal labeling law regulations, and Adult Industry Medical (AIM) Healthcare Foundation’s Dr. Sharon Mitchell, PhD, will give a presentation and facilitate a discussion about HIV self-regulation in the industry.

The FSC meetingwill be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, California.
