Freaky Deaky Surfaces in Miami

The Freaky Deaky adult expo is leaving the Kansas City underground for the white beaches and resort feel of Miami, Florida. “Miami is the key place for everybody to act the way I want them to act,” laughed promoter Tony Cheese, who takes his show on the road after four-plus years of running it in the Midwest. “Miami is perfect; the hotel we have makes it even better.”

The hotel in question is the Deauville Beach Resort, just off Miami Beach, upon which Freaky Deaky USA will descend from September 30 to October 3. In a venue the promoter said “has a lot of history,” Cheese hopes to serve what he feels are underrepresented minority adult entertainment businesses and fans through a mix of hip-hop, adult entertainment and sex education.

Cheese feels the move to Miami is a necessary one for expo. “Where we come from, out here, it’s just catching up. It’s still behind. You can imagine what it was like in the late ‘90s, when the rest of the country was doing their thing and coming to life. Going three hours down the road to St. Louis, even, it’s like night and day.”

Cheese says that despite prevailing attitudes, people have come to his events from as far away as Des Moines and Dallas.

According to Cheese, confirmed guests from the adult entertainment world include Pamela Peaks, Heather Hunter and Ron Hightower. Cheese says his company is still trying to lock in a musical presence for the show, with negotiations centered around two female entertainers and several rappers with links to adult entertainment.

“As more people hear about it — and people are talking about it out west — that should compel them to come out.” An experienced show and fight promoter, Cheese feels an exhibition gives an event like Freaky Deaky a special, added dimension. “To me, the exhibits are the fun parts. They’re really the education.”

Next up for Cheese is an event in Los Angeles that he feels, unlike Freaky Deaky, will remain largely underground. “It’s going to be a festival, like something you’ve never seen before,” he promises.” Cheese feels his advantage is his connection to the streets, which gives him insight into the appeal of amateur entertainment. But for now his attention is on Miami and a show he hopes goes over in a big way.

“What makes Freaky Deaky so lovely is that it appeals to everybody. Whoever you lay down with or act out with, you know we’re all freaky.”
