Former Sailor Busted In Three Prostitute Killings

A former Navy man is in custody in a case involving the killing of at least three prostitutes here, and he's also suspected in killings of several more in various states and countries.

Authorities say tips from other prostitutes led to the 26-year-old, who's identified only as being from the Detroit area. Detroit police have told the media they believe they have the right suspect in the cases.

The identity of only one of the victims has been revealed. She's Kelly Hood, a 33-year-old divorcee and mother of three children, say Detroit police. The others won't be revealed pending notification of their families.

The bodies of the three Detroit-area victims were found April 10 by a railroad worker. They were lying near tracks on Detroit's southwest side, according to published reports, with police arriving in the morning and spending most of the day hunting other clues.

All the victims were strangled to death over the previous three weeks, including one estimated to have been killed April 9, police investigators say. State and federal law enforcement officers are working on the case as well.

The suspect is believed to have committed killings in several countries in Asia, as well as in Tel Aviv, Israel. He's also suspected of having killed women in Virginia, Hawaii, and Washington states.
