CHATSWORTH, Calif.—In its continuing series of articles on the porn industry by Susannah Breslin Forbes has profiled AVN Hall of Fame video editor Sonny Malone, aka Smutcutter.
The article highlights Malone's beginnings in the porn industry after going to school for post-production and working in finance for a post-production facility. Beyond describing her typical day, the piece delves into specifics of Malone's craft.
The 20-year adult industry veteran spent eight years at Vivid where she won Best Editing-Film at the AVN Awards for The Masseuse and The Devil in Miss Jones. She's also worked for Danni.com, Burning Angel Entertainment and Girlfriends Films.
"Some people think that it’s all free sex and and it’s easy," Malone told Forbes. "I can assure you, you will learn more about filmmaking and the post process then you will ever learn on any major motion picture.
"So, if you want to learn the ropes, porn is the place to cut your teeth," Malone continued. "You will learn how to be a problem solver when you are staring at a stuttering hard drive at 3 am, and the feature is due in five hours, and you are on your own with your laptop and three cups of cold coffee. You will get the job done."
