CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Among the highest compliments a starlet can receive is being chosen by hallowed director Mason as the subject of one of her signature star showcases. For her latest, out today from Hard X/O.L. Entertainment, the 2015 AVN Director of the Year hand-selected porn's current darling (and AVN's reigning Best New Starlet), Abella Danger.
But Abella was in the works long before Danger started getting showered with awards; in fact, Mason set the wheels turning on it before the young sensation had so much as a nomination under her belt.
"We discussed it from August, and [were] shooting it since November," Danger recounted to AVN. "I couldn't fucking believe it. It had taken her a while to finally shoot me, and then out of nowhere she just offered me this showcase, and I really couldn't believe it. I thought that was the most epic thing ever, was to have a Hard X showcase, and she believed in me enough to give me one."
To hear Mason tell it, however, the privilege was all hers. She told AVN, "It's always an honor to be a part of any star showcase, but when you get to work with someone like Abella, it becomes an experience of a lifetime. Abella has depth and soul and desires that exceed her mere 20 years, and it was a joy to capture what I feel was her truly coming into her own."
There's a reason, of course, why a Mason showcase has the cachet it does, and spends so much longer than your standard churn-and-burn gonzo flick in production: If Axel Braun has a legendary attention to deal, Mason has a downright mythic-level perfectionism.
"Mason is very specific," Danger explained. "If the weather isn't perfect, if anything is not the way that it's supposed to be, it's just not meant to happen that day. So we would go to shoot one day, but it was like, 'Oh, we're not getting enough sun rays, so fuck it, let's cancel.' And I love that about her—she doesn't care about losing money or anything like that—she wants it to be perfect."
Among the hallmarks of Mason's showcases are their emotionally charged inteview segments and the director's uncanny ability to wring tears from her interviewees' eyes ... something Danger said she achieved "multiple times, unfortunately," in shooting those portions of Abella.
"It was deep," Danger reflected. "I was feeling a lot. Some questions, it was like, 'Wow, I've never even asked myself that,' so to have to answer it out loud was intense. That was the most deep conversation I've had with anyone in this industry. Her questions were so intuitive, you could tell she put a lot of thought into what she was going to ask me. She really wanted to get to know what's inside this girl besides this really sexual being. It was very overwhelming, in the best way possible."
Mason was extremely pleased with the results, calling Abella's interview pieces "some of the most revealing I have ever witnessed; they accentuate the intimacy of the sex scenes."
And as to those sex scenes, Danger promises they are the best of her career thus far. There are four in total: a girl/girl/boy with Mick Blue and back-in-full-action Kristina Rose; a b/g anal with Rico Strong; another b/g anal with Manuel Ferrara; and the pièce de résistance, Danger's first double penetration, including double vag and double anal, with Blue and on-the-rise power performer Markus Dupree.
"I swear to god, every single time I shot a scene for [this] movie, I was like, 'This was the best sex of my life,'" Danger gushed. "I really like having sex in front of Mason because she doesn't tell me, like, 'These are the positions that you have to do,' or anything. The only thing she says is, 'I want you to cum as much as possible.' With my d.p., I wasn't even supposed to do double anal, I just was so in the moment, I was like, 'I need you both in my asshole.' I had never felt something like that; it was so euphoric, and it was like this new feeling that I had never felt before, and it was incredible. I loved it.
"There was no better way for me to do my first d.p.," she added. "I don't think I would have wanted to do double anal in any other situation."
"Of course capturing her first d.p. was extraordinary," Mason submitted, "but she is so much more than that. She is a complex, beautiful sexual creature who is living life on her own terms. I truly hope she is acknowledged come awards season."
Speaking of awards season, Abella arrives perfectly in time to capitalize on the currently in rotation nationwide broadcast of Danger's shining moment being crowned AVN's 2016 Best New Starlet. When she watched the debut airing herself last Friday night, Danger confessed, "I cried, because that was like the best moment of my life. Like holy shit, I wanted it so bad. It was amazing to relive that moment, because it was by far the best moment of my life. That and then my showcase, it's like amazing; this industry has just fucking blessed me. I'm lucky."
She further noted, "I would really love to thank Hard X and [O.L. Entertainment head of production] Jon Blitt and Mason for giving me this movie. I am forever grateful."
