Flynt, "Radical Traditionalist" Rabbi Debate

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach & Larry Flynt

BEVERLY HILLS - Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and "radical traditionalist" Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, author of Kosher Sex, will debate sex, porn, and the Internet at the Wilshire Theater here the night of April 24.

"The rabbi is a very conservative but a wild kind of man," says Max Lobkowicz, spokesman for cable TV and Web radio sex therapist Susan Block, with whose people the rabbi spent part of the Passover holidays. "He espouses a traditionalism in a way that's very radical. He's stepped away from the bounds of tradition but he maintains a lot of it. Kind of like having the good sides of both parts of it. And, he's a very funny man. And we, of course, should see some sparks flying because Larry Flynt is also a very intense and funny man."

Sparks seem to have flown between the two previous to this debate, according to a Flynt spokeswoman who asked not to be identified by name. She said the two first met when doing Judith Regan's local television show in New York City.

"The conversation was so engaging that Rabbi Shmuley contacted us later to see if Mr. Flynt would want to have a debate with him," she said. "And we thought that would be a fascinating idea. I think they make an interesting combination."

The debate begins at 7:30 p.m. If you're in the Los Angeles area and you want to attend, you can get free tickets through Block's show by calling (213) 749-1330.
