Flynt Opposes Condom Mandate, Regulation in LA Times Commentary

Regulation of the adult film industry such as mandating condom usage is unnecessary and not a good idea, Larry Flynt wrote in a commentary that appears in today's Los Angeles Times.

Flynt stressed that the HIV testing procedure that is already in place is working and the current outbreak was caught early and kept under control.

"I believe that additional regulation would not only be unnecessary, it would be counterproductive," he wrote.

Flynt defended the standard PCR/DNA test used to detect HIV and pointed out that it illustrates the industry's acceptance of responsibility in "voluntarily regulating itself."

He went on to say that a person has a "greater likelihood of getting HIV from your neighbor, who is not tested on a regular basis," than from a performer in the industry.
