Florida's Proposed Fund-Raiser

...better to have a plan than go off half cocked

Mike Ross reports: "The meeting slated for 10/14 in Orlando, has been moved to Tampa. The meeting is designed to prepare for the city's attempt to install a 3 foot setback/distance between patrons and dancers, effectively outlawing lap dancing.

" 'I was so upset and angry, that I wanted to picket,' Larry Wolf, owner of the Seven Seas Cabaret said. "But after talking to Michael, we devised a plan that not only tempered my feelings, but established a plan that will unify, while controlling the press and raising money."

" 'Specifically, Larry and I propose that the NCA work with the Florida Cabaret Association to conduct a city wide rally 'support the industry rally'.

"The proposed rally will be held the weekend before the ordinance 'is heard'. The object(s) of the event will be to promote both Voter Registration and the collection of signed "petitions and post cards".

"Working together, we'll create a city-wide promotion. And with the help of national "features", the event operates as follows: the weekend before the first council meeting, every club should participate in a comprehensive rally designed to educate the local community (from consumers to media to politicians) about city attempts to unnecessarily regulate the industry. To make the event as successful as possible, we believe that the event should take place on the Friday and Saturday directly before the hearing and that we should collect patron petitions and post cards supporting our side.

"Additionally, before the rally starts, we will hold an "open house" for all to come in and view the facilities, as well as hold at least one press conference. The goal will be to get our "position" out to the media and public. Hopefully, this will lead to media/talk show interviews.

"Finally, we will promote this in several ways - from advertising to leaflets to portable signs. In most instances, the rally will also be the start of a local ballot initiative or referendum designed to recall those elected or stop the enforcement of the law. http://www.cabaretcoaltion.com
