- Hollywood commissioner Sal Oliveri had to apologize to the gay community for remarks he made that insinuated that homosexuals were tied to the adult entertainment industry.
While discussing his opposition to the opening of another adult entertainment business in Hollywood, Oliveri stated that the city had a moral obligation not to settle a lawsuit the business owner filed (the city did anyway).
Near the end of his comments, Oliveri said, "Wake up America ... otherwise you have a pervert or a homosexual living next to you.''
Oliveri said tensions ran high at the commission meeting and he did not mean to say homosexuals during his comments. He meant to talk about pedophiles, he said.
Some said they were satisfied with Oliveri's apology, issued yesterday, but others said the commissioner skirted the issue.
"Everyone who is righteous has a right to live the way they do,'' Oliveri said on Thursday.
