Flashback Friday: Kate McKinnon Meets Nina Hartley

LOS ANGELES—Actress and comedienne Kate McKinnon has been getting plenty of attention for her turn as eccentric scientist and all-around badass Jillian Holtzmann in the Ghostbusters reboot, but newcomers to her fandom might not be aware of her other skills, including a little something she picked up from Nina Hartley.

The 32-year-old out lesbian made a name for herself impersonating Hillary Clinton and Ellen DeGeneres on Saturday Night Live, but got her TV start a decade ago on The Big Gay Sketch Show. Her co-star on that Logo TV show, Julie Goldman, had a short-lived series eight years ago titled Celesbian Interviews, one episode of which featured porn star Nina Hartley. During the episode, Hartley talked about why she considers herself a heterosexual butch dyke and gave a down-and-dirty explanation of how to have sex with a woman, including how to pull her hair.

In the final two minutes of the episode, McKinnon was called in to help with the hair-pulling demonstration and was left a little … flustered.

“Good hair pulling makes the right woman melt, and bad hair pulling makes her want to slap you upside the head,” Hartley said before calling McKinnon on set to help her demonstrate.

“That’s … uh … uh-huh uh-huh huh!” McKinnon says (OK, moans) while receiving Hartley’s special attention.

When the teaching is done, McKinnon attempts to leave the set.

“Sorry I wrecked the poster,” she says on her way out. “I think I need to go to the bathroom …”

It’s difficult to find the entire episode online, but the clip can be found on YouTube.
