First Sex in Video Games Conference Slated for June

The first Sex in Video Games Conference: Exploring the Business of Digital Erotic Entertainment will be June 8 and 9 at the Nob Hill Masonic Center in San Francisco. The conference is the first of its type and will become an annual event.

The unique conference will focus on the design, development, and technology of sex in videogames from national and international perspectives. In addition, the conference also will focus strongly on business matchmaking and networking. During the conference’s two-day run, it will feature numerous lectures and keynotes, a machinima art show (erotic art and movies derived from videogames), and panel discussions with leaders in videogame and adult videogame development.

Currently announced lectures include “Sex in Games: Where are We Now?” by Brenda Brathwaite, who is a game designer and the founder and chair of the International Game Developers Association’s Sexuality SIG; “The Future of Sex and Technology” by Dave Taylor, a game producer and game consultant who served as a programmer on DOOM and Quake among others, and “The Making of the SeXbox: Applied Hardware” by Kyle Machulis, a robotics engineer and founder of Slashdong.org and MMOrgy.com.

Panels include “Designing Successful Online Erotic Games,” “Creating a Massively Multiplayer Online Erotic Game,” and “Integrating International AO Success into the US Market,” which will focus on the international success of the hentai market.

Keynote speakers and the remainder of the full two-day conference program will be announced in February and April.

The conference also will facilitate networking for those looking to break into or invest in the emerging field.

“This conference is long overdue,” says scheduled lecture presenter Taylor. “The staggering progress in PC rendering and simulation technology that has been relentlessly driven by the game industry for years is now poised to turn the entire adult entertainment industry on its ear.”

Suzanne Freyjadis-Chuberka, president of conference producer Evergreen Events, agrees with Taylor. “In an effort to focus on the business of digital erotic entertainment, this conference will help to facilitate conversations that will enable both the game industry as well as the adult entertainment industry to develop a more mature perspective on adults-only games as well as ways to grow that segment of the industry,” she says.

The target audience for the conference includes the videogame industry, the adult entertainment industry, and those interested in investment opportunities.
