Feminist Pornographers to Address UC Berkeley Class

BERKELEY, Calif. -  Directors Madison Young, Jackie Strano, Ian Sparks, and Shine Louise Houston will discuss the topic of queer feminist porn today at the University of California - Berkeley's Female Sexuality class.

The student-run Fem Sex course has been held at Berkeley for over a decade. Other campuses have since picked up the class, which stresses female "empowerment and self-exploration." Covering a wide range of sexuality and gender topics, the class has offered lectures from sex workers, strippers, abortion counselors, midwives, herbalists, porn stars, activists and other sex industry educators.

Young, a popular young bondage model, directs and stars in lesbian and fetish videos for her company Madison Bound Productions, which is distributed through Abigail Productions.

Sparks is one of the founders of Trannywood Pictures, a producer of gay and transgender porn movies including the GAYVN-nominated alternative release Cubbyholes: Trans Men in Action.

Strano is a veteran of the Bay Area music scene and co-founder of the lesbian porn studio SIR Productions. SIR produced the AVN Award-winning Sugar High Glitter City, Hard Love in High Heels, and Healing Sex.

Houston is the founder of San Francisco-based Pink and White Productions, a producer of queer feminist erotica. Her video Crash Pad won the award for Hottest Dyke Film at the 2008 Feminist Porn Awards. Also on today's panel is actor Shawn, who appeared in Crash Pad and other films by Houston.

The panel discussion runs from 4 -5 p.m. For more information on Fem Sex, visit www.femsex.net.
