Fat Dog to Deliver Cease and Desist Letter to DJ Yella Entertainment, Sunshine Films

Larry Field, owner of Fat Dog Productions, told AVN.com Tuesday that he has asked his attorney to send a cease and desist letter to DJ Yella Entertainment and Sunshine Films regarding use of exclusive content that he owns.

Field said the box covers pictured in Sunshine's ad on page 213 of the July AVN were virtually identical to the box covers for at least six titles he already purchased from DJ Yella Entertainment that have been on the market. The Sunshine boxes were for a "new" series called Erotic Auditions, and volumes 1-6 were shown.

The cover for Erotic Auditions 6 appears to be the same as Fat Dog's Junk 'N Da Trunk 24, and so is the cast list. The same goes for the cover of Erotic Auditions 2, which closely resembles Fat Dog's Black and Just Legal 5. EA 5 is nearly the same as Fat Dog's cover for Black and Just Legal 2 and Sunshine's EA 1 looks likeFat Dog's artwork from A Girl's Affair 67.

Big Man, who is DJ Yella's partner and director, said the ad was a "mistake" that was amplified when someone from his office gave Sunshine co-owner Rita a disc containing wrong artwork. He told AVN.com that Sunshine, DJ Yella's distributor, had planned to make a compilation called the Best of DJ Yella and distribute it.

"What happened was (Rita) was making a comp from DJ Yella's XXX Games and Hip-Hop Cheerleaders and the wrong disc went over there with those pictures," Big Man said Tuesday, adding that he didn't get to proof-read the ad before it was sent. "We just lost on the box covers. We got rid of them. They were destroyed. There is no Erotic Auditions."

Rita, co-owner of Sunshine Films, told AVN.com that even though her company advertised six new volumes of Erotic Auditions that no such product exists.

"We are not going to release it. I promise him. We make a big mistake," Rita said. "You can blame me. I didn't open my eye. It's good it happened this way. I'm not going to release it. I want peace of mind."

However, Field said he since has found at least one other DJ Yella-produced scene for which he bought exclusive rights that appears in more than just the Fat Dog title. Field said that in reviewing tapes that Rita sent him last week he saw one scene from Fat Dog's Black and Just Legal 6 in Sunshine's Ghetto Hoz

"They're taking pieces from 24/7, Junk 'N Da Trunk and Black and Just Legal and using them. They're buying scenes and they know who they're buying scenes from. They offered to buy more," Field said. "Once is a mistake. Ten times is not a mistake."

Field continued, "The whole thing that's upsetting is I paid (DJ Yella Entertainment) and they're supposed to give me everything to do with that. And now they're selling it to other people. … I have all the artwork. I have the masters."

Field said that he and DJ Yella go back five years and the former N.W.A. star has produced over 80 videos for him along with Big Man, with whom he primarily deals.

"I just had him shoot another movie for me three or four weeks ago," Field said.

DJ Yella was unavailable for comment.
