FSC to Have Presence at Labor Day Telethon

Bob, vice president at Dane Productions, has spent his Labor Day weekend for the last 20 years answering phones in the nationally syndicated "Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon." Bob told AVN.com that he has been volunteering his time with his rotary club for longer than he cares to mention.

“I see the families and the children touched by this disease and I am not comfortable with myself,” Bob said. “The only luxury item they ever want is for their child, mother or father to be well. The only thought these people have is to make it through another day.

“We usually worked the worst shift – late Sunday night to early Monday morning – as we really wanted to help out."

Bob explained that, due to personal reasons, he had to resign from his rotary club, and so when the telethon’s main sponsor, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, called him last week to set up his times for the annual telethon, he was forced to think of another organization to represent.

“So I told her I was a member of the Free Speech Coalition and would be able to bring people. The girl on the phone told me she wasn’t familiar with the organization, but would get back to me.”

Bob said he didn’t get a call back right away and was sure that because of the Free Speech Coalition’s link to the adult entertainment industry, the telethon would not be interested in including the group.

“I felt bad,” said Bob, “because I knew I could have gotten the support of a lot of great folks in our industry who would have loved to give a few hours on Labor Day weekend to help others who need it. I thought, this will be the first time in over two decades that I won’t participate in the telethon.”

Much to his surprise, however, the MDA did give Bob a call back, inviting the group to come on join the giant fundraiser, with 20 or 30 members to represent it.

Bob is now actively seeking members to represent the FSC - a legal watchdog for the adult entertainment industry – during the telethon. “This event will really get the word out there about the Free Speech Coalition as well,” said Bob, “because every time we answer the phone, we say the organization’s name.

“We’ll also be on television in front of millions of people…so we’ll really have to represent this industry well.”

Bob also told AVN.com that he will be at Club Aura tonight in Studio City for the Naughty & Nice party, if anyone from the industry would like to discuss the event with him personally.
