SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Representatives and advocates of the adult entertainment industry will visit Sacramento on March 9 and 10 to meet with lawmakers as part of the 12th annual Celebrate Free Speech Lobbying Days.
The two-day advocacy event is sponsored by the Free Speech Coalition in an effort to encourage adult performers, business owners, professionals and supporters to visit the state capitol and become citizen lobbyists for a day.
"It is much better for our legislators to hear the truth about our industry from us, rather than the lies from our opponents, who are all too willing to spread misinformation about who we are and what we do," said FSC executive director Diane Duke. "We are watching a couple of bills that are being shopped around. One is mandatory condom legislation, and the other is a tax on adult entertainment.”
Many FSC supporters have taken part in Lobbying Days over the years, including performers Mary Carey, Nina Hartley, Stormy Daniels, Dave Cummings, and Kayden Kross.
The FSC's new lobbyist, Ignacio Hernandez, said the annual event is much anticipated by legislators. Like Duke, he stressed that the occasion gives participants a chance to represent the adult industry in a positive light.
This year's Free Speech Lobbying Days will culminate in a March 10 reception sponsored by Wicked Pictures, in which lawmakers, staff, and advocates relax over drinks and refreshments.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
Monday, March 9
Lobby Training, 7 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday, March 10
Lobby Day Briefing Breakfast, 8:30 a.m.
Lobbying at the Capitol, 9:30 a.m. - 5 pm
Wicked Reception, 5 - 8 p.m.
