FSC Clarifies Position on Senate Hearing Issues

Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) held a hearing Thursday on issues related to Internet Pornography in which a number of government officials, industry experts and private citizens were asked to testify. One witness of note was criminal defense attorney Paul Cambria Jr., counsel for the Adult Freedom Foundation, and the only individual from the adult entertainment community thus far invited to testify before the committee.

The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) appreciates the fact that the committee invited a representative from the industry to testify, and was pleased that Cambria referred in his testimony to statistical data from our 2005 White Paper, an in-depth analysis of the state of the adult entertainment industry, available on www.freespeechcoalition.com in the Topics section.

The Free Speech Coalition proudly represents over 3000 members from every sector of the adult entertainment industry. Its core mission is to provide legislative analysis, engage in state and federal lobbying efforts, encourage good business practices, and as a last resort to enter into litigation to protect the industry from abusive laws and regulations.

Age verification is the popular term for labeling, ratings, digital tagging, and other methods that either identify of-age surfers or allow parents greater control over content that may be inappropriate for their underage children.

Free Speech Coalition supports the right of all parents to make their own decisions regarding how their children are raised, and encourages them to take proactive measures to protect their children from content they deem harmful. It recognize the complex issues surrounding age verification on adult Websites, and are currently evaluating the efficacy of systems now available. But, as with FSC's advocacy for the creation of a .KIDS top-level domain, the Coalition believes that the best solution for all parents in the digital age is to encourage the labeling or digitally tagging of child-friendly sites rather than adult sites.

The Free Speech Coalition is devoted to safeguarding the industry from repressive government regulations and promoting good business practices within the industry.
