San Francisco has been sued for hate speech related to homosexuality by a group here…but it isn't exactly the kind of hate speech you might expect to get someone into politically correct trouble.
The American Family Association, the Rev. Donald Wildmon, the Family Research Council, and Kerruso Ministries have sued in federal court against both the city and the county of San Francisco, over official actions the city allegedly took condemning religious institutions which term homosexuality as sinful, says the AFA in a press release.
The suit says that, in a letter sent at Board of Supervisors direction, the AFA, the FRC, and others were condemned as being directly responsible for such crimes as the Matthew Shepard murder (for which jury selection began Monday in the second trial in the case) and other anti-gay and lesbian crime. The suit also accuses the board of passing a resolution urging local television not to air "Truth in Love" advertisements, sponsored by Christian organizations and offering to help homosexuals "come out of" the lifestyle, the AFA says.
"The city's actions are but one more reminder of how aggressive and in your face the homosexual agenda has become," Wildmon says. AFA Center for Law and Policy chief counsel Stephen Crampton says they are "the clearest example of government hostility toward religion" he has seen yet. He accused the city's rhetoric of being an open invitation to homosexuals for violence against Christians.
