FLORIDA LAWMAKERS MULLING ADULT ADMISSION TAX

With Florida lawmakers considering whether to slap an admissions tax on adult clubs, the National Cabaret Association plans a seminar and lobbying day here on March 7 - the same day as the so-called Super Tuesday presidential primaries.

The bill would, if passed into law, impose a tax on "sales, use, and other transactions" on businesses which "offer, advertise, or engage in adult entertainment services." It would require the state Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco to report to the state Revenue Department those which offer those services and don't display a sales tax dealer certificate indicating they will collect the tax.

And the bill is broad enough to impose the tax on any business which offers any kind of adult-oriented entertainment, including lingerie and bikini modeling, body shampooing, stripping or erotic dancing, topless waitressing, lap or friction dancing, nude modeling and photography sessions, escort services, and others.

The National Cabaret Association also plans other lobbying efforts in Arizona, Washington, and New Jersey, where a similar bill is being considered by lawmakers in that state. Dates for those days will be announced Feb. 28. To attend any of these lobbying days, or find out more, call (916) 456-7311
