F**king for a Good Cause

Sex and porn are called upon once in a while to serve causes greater than the orgasm, and a new website based in Berlin, FuckForForest.com, is doing “it” for the environment.

“We will not say where before everything is in place,” the site says in a blurb discussing two new projects by the group behind it. “So much has gone wrong for us and we want to be sure everything is completely in order before giving all the details. It has been a long and hard way, much more problematic than we could ever imagine. So now we are a little fed up with counting on ecological organizations other th[a]n [ourselves], and it looks like we are going to South America to help someone directly.”

FuckForForest.com representatives did not return a query for comment from AVNOnline.com before this story went to press, but the site’s co-creators, Leona Johansson and Tommy Hol Ellingsen, both former progressive theater veterans, told SFGate they wanted to make a difference instead of just protesting the state of the world’s treatment of nature.

"Everyone must try to create something good using what they have," Hol Ellingsen told SFGate. "We had nothing, just our bodies. Porn makes really, really a lot of money, so why not use that money for good?"

Indeed, the site says on its home page that all profit it makes “will be used to support the protection of threatened nature,” and claims that what was once about 14.8 billion acres of forest 8,000 years ago has since been cut in half “as a consequence of human exploitation.”

Elsewhere on the site, Hol Ellingsen and Johansson are more emphatic about their cause. “[FuckForForest.com is] concerned youngsters, fighting to preserve the environment,” they say in another site statement. “We believe it is possible to use people’s need for sexuality as a way to raise money for nature. And create interest for preserving our forests. It is time to pay respect, and give something back. Fuck for forest, and give the profit to the earths threatened nature.”

The good news: FuckForForest.com has raised more than $100,000 in its first year through membership revenues, and they even got seed money from the Norwegian government to help launch it, before subsequently moving its base to Berlin. The bad news: Unlike a lot of Internet porn start -ups, their problem isn’t getting the money in so much as it is giving it away once they get it.

In fact, they left Norway in the first place because of a performance at a 2004 music festival before 5,000 people, where Hol Ellingsen and Johansson told the crowd about the human impact on the world’s forests, before Hol Ellingsen stripped and asked how far the crowd would go to try saving nature.

Then, the couple showed how far they would go, mounting a speaker and having sex while a band known as The Cumshots cranked out what was described as a heavy metal style dirge, “Go Forth and Fuck.” Norwegian authorities charged them with staging a public sex show, and rather than pay the fine they hightailed it to Berlin.

“The Kristiansand court still thinks it is necessary to punish our kind of environmental fuck behavior on the Quart festival,” Johansson said in a message on the website. “Three members of The Cumshots claim they knew too little about what we were going to do at the show. But they still got punished. The two remaining ‘main’ members were the one[s] planning the environmental rock fuck show together with us. They accepted the [fine] given by the police, saying they were too [lazy] to follow up the fight. We feel they could have been a little tougher for the cause of the environment, rock ’n’ roll and artistic freedom. But we still love them.”
