Evil Angel Signs James Deen to Direct

VAN NUYS, Calif.—Evil Angel has inked James Deen as its newest director, the studio announced today. Deen's first release under the new deal streets in July.

Evil believes Deen's versatility—he's equally adept with everything from couples erotica, to gonzo, to BDSM—makes him a valuable commodity. Of course his surging popularity and social media buzz don't hurt either.

“To me, sex should be motivated by what I feel, not by a formulaic mandate," Deen said.

Deen will direct one movie per month for Evil Angel, debuting in July with the gonzo title James Deen Loves Butts starring Dana DeArmond, Mason Moore and Jessie Rogers, along with Deen. Deen has appeared in more than 3,000 scenes since he began his career in 2004. He's the reigning AVN Male Performer of the Year.

Deen has been directing since 2008 and says, "It’s an honor to be included as a director with a company that includes John Stagliano and Rocco Siffredi."

Deen's star has risen considerably in the past year in both porn and mainstream, but he's said numerous times that he's committed to adult entertainment no matter how big he becomes.

Deen starred with Lindsay Lohan in The Canyons, directed by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, American Gigolo) and written by literary figure Bret Easton Ellis (Less Than Zero, American Psycho). Deen’s been profiled in GQ and was the subject of a photo shoot and interview at RollingStone.com. He’s been interviewed on ABC’s Nightline and on CNBC.

“While I am excited about the marketing opportunity garnered by James’ crossover appeal, none of that mattered to John [Stagliano]," Evil Angel General Manager Christian Mann said. "To become an Evil Angel director, James had to meet the same criteria as every one on our roster—their work had to appeal to John’s innate sense of what makes good smut. I’m happy to say James Deen’s directorial efforts have met that standard.”

His sex tape with Farrah Abraham, the star of MTV’s Teen Mom, has received heavy coverage on virtually every celebrity news outlet. In addition to his blog at JamesDeen.com, which he says gets 10,000 hits per day, Deen also has been an in-demand speaker on the college campus circuit.
