Known in the porn industry as Big Daddy Redd, 25-year-old adult filmmaker William Truett sobbed and expressed remorse before a judge sentenced him to 7 ½-15 years in prison Jan. 13 for using underage girls in his productions.
Truett was convicted in October of four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and other charges, including sexual abuse of children, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I hate this business," he sobbed at his sentencing. "I'm just sorry for what I did."
Truett's trial included showings of videotapes and photographs of him having sex with teenage girls, the Inquirer says. "I have no personal feeling against you," Judge Lisa A. Richette told him before she sentenced him. "I hate what you did, but I don't hate you.
"This court sat through many hours watching these horrendous tapes. It was a very disturbing, disgusting experience."
The Inquirer says Truett produced his films at his home. Big Daddy Redd Productions, the paper says, was about a $200,000-a-year business, with Truett starring in the films and producing over a hundred titles in a series he called Steamy Hot Sex.
During Truett's trial, two runaway teen girls, 14 and 15, testified to meeting him on the street and being asked if they wanted to make money making movies, the Inquirer says. They agreed. A third testified that, when she was 14, the paper says, Truett brought a video camera and a few men to her home, where she performed sexual acts on tape.
Truett's mother, Donna, a teacher, and other family and friends pleaded for mercy for Truett, citing a difficult childhood including a father who was said to have abused women and may have abused his son as well, the Inquirer says.
Richette, however, dismissed such testimony in considering his sentencing. "I don't see the connection in what happened to him as a child and this vast enterprise he got himself into." The prosecution argued the case was "pure and simple" about money.
Truett was arrested last February, with his tape equipment and two automobiles seized as well. The Inquirer also says police raided several video stores in the Philadelphia area and seized several of Truett's films.
