Dot-Kids More Ghost Town Than E-Theme Park: Report

A year after President Bush signed the so-called dot-kids legislation into law – a separate domain for children – it looks like anything but what supporters of the idea hoped it would be, with few more than 1,500 buying dot-kids addresses since they went on sale last June and only eight of them attached to live Websites, according to a published report.

"(T)he online haven looks more like a ghost town than the theme park envisioned b its backers," the Washington Post said February 20. "The reality is," said the sponsor of the House version of the bill, Rep. John Shimkus (R-Illinois), "I have to get more engaged and keep pushing it if we want to be successful." The paper says other problems in getting dot-kids around include finding sites to keep children interested – and the cost of registering dot-kids names and site.
