Direct Response Gurus Mantra Entertainment Reaches Out to Retail

Girls Gone Wild isn’t just for direct response marketing and large retail chains anymore. The nascent business-to-business division of Mantra Entertainment, producers of the popular softcore series, has recently begun reaching out to mom-and-pop retailers.

“To be quite honest, we hadn’t ever been serious about mom-and-pop stores, or, at least, not as serious as we should have been,” Mantra communications VP Bill Horn told AVN.com.

“Obviously, we’re still doing direct response, and we’re in large retail chains like Virgin, Warehouse, and Tower,” Horn said. “But people have been coming to us for quite some time and asking us about our product for their independent stores, so I guess you could say this was born out of necessity.”

Girls Gone Wild is not the only series with which Mantra has had success. They’ve branched out to include a diverse array of titles, including Doggy Style, featuring Snoop Dogg, Bad Girls/Girls Who Like Girls, and for women they’ve created Guys Gone Wild.

Direct response marketing will continue to be Mantra Entertainment’s favored distribution method, but most titles will become available to retailers within a few months after their release.

“Not everything will make it to retail, though, but we sometimes do special projects meant just for retail, or package them in a way just for retailers,” Horn said.

For instance, Mantra may package three Spring Break titles together in one package, including footage that has never been released via direct marketing.

“It’s something that we’ve just started discussing in earnest recently. Now we’re looking for ways of being more effective in how we deal with retailers.”

An 800 number will be set up in the near future, but for now, distributors interested in ordering from Mantra can call (213) 675-8722.
