VAN NUYS, Calif.—Digital Playground will release Love & Marriage in a special DVD and Blu-ray combo pack for the price of one standard DVD. This special package—the first of its kind—enables owners of both formats to enjoy either one, or for owners of a standard DVD player to have a Blu-ray copy for when they purchase a compatible player.
This unique package, releasing Nov. 9, was prompted by Blu-ray’s lack of portability, according to the studio.
“Since a Blu-ray disc will play only where you have a Blu-ray player, many people often can't watch their new movie in the bedroom, on a laptop, or in any other place where they only have a DVD player,” Digital Playground founder and director Joone said.
Additionally, the combo pack assists retailers in stocking an additional Blu-ray title without the additional cost.
“The packaged combos shatter the relatively high cost of Blu-ray movies to the same price as normal DVDs and takes out the risk of stocking Blu-ray titles for distributors and retailers. They now can offer one product for both markets with no risks,” a company spokesperson said.
Love & Marriage stars Kayden Kross, Lisa Ann, Jessie Andrews, Breanne Benson, Tommy Gunn, Manuel Ferrara and Scott Nails. To view the movie’s trailer, click here.
Samantha Lewis, CEO of Digital Playground, said, “Digital Playground’s DVD/Blu-ray combo packs are the perfect way for consumers to future-proof their collections while still enjoying their favorite movies on their existing DVD players.”
Digital Playground’s Vice President of Sales Peggy Mac said, “Honestly, we love the idea of tossing a DVD in at little to no extra cost; there's hardly a better way to convince people to try Blu-ray discs than to include one with the purchase of their DVD.”
Love & Marriage includes behind the scenes, a photo gallery and bonus trailers. The DVD version also includes a slide show. The movie is presented in 16:9 widescreen format with 5.1 Digital Surround Sound and no regional coding.
"Wow! You don’t know what that means to us here in South Africa,” said Steve McDermott, multimedia general manager of Adult World. “Blu-ray machines are just now becoming affordable here and not a lot of companies are prepared to invest additional money in the format because of the costs. Now we don’t have to worry with this brilliant idea from DP. Our customers will now definitely be satisfied.”
