With a name like Dick Smothers, you've got a choice of going into comedy or porn. Dick Smothers went into comedy, achieving fame with his brother Tom as the Smothers Brothers, but his son, Dick Smothers Jr., chose another route, performing in Cash Markman's new feature Bad Influence.
Ona Zee came off a three-year retirement to play Mrs. Wilkinson, the equivalent of Mrs. Robinson, in this porn take off of The Graduate. When Markman started searching for someone to play Dustin, the young man who is seduced by an older woman, Zee suggested Smothers Jr., who had PA'd for her on a project she had directed.
"We sat down for a couple of hours and talked because I wanted to make sure that he was making the right choices for himself, I didn't want to exploit him and just throw him into a situation that would cause a lot of embarrassment for his family. But he seemed to have a very clear idea of what he wants to do. He's a big fan of porn," Markman told AVN.com.
According to Markman, Smother's Jr. is also a big fan of rock, and fronts his own band called Electric Dick. A large part of his motivation for stepping in front of the camera was to generate awareness of his band. Smothers considered it a win/win situation - noting that at the worst, he's getting paid to have sex with beautiful women.
Smothers hopes to include music from Electric Dick into the soundtracks of adult videos that he appears in, and possibly included music videos of his band on the DVD releases of the titles he is in. So from his perspective he's in porn to gain attention for his band, but at the worst, he's getting paid to have sex with hot women
"Great comedic timing. Great acting by a great looking guy - and he's not to bad in the saddle either," noted Markman of Smothers first performance, which was a masturbation tease scene in which Zee gives him a handjob. Smothers Jr. also had a boy/girl scene with Aurora Snow.
Smothers Jr. hadn't told his famous father when he performed his first scene. However, after agreeing to be interviewed by the National Enquirer, he decided he should inform Smothers Sr. The initial response wasn't so great, but when the National Enquirer article came out last week, Jr. received a call from his dad.
"My father liked the article. He's supportive," Smothers told AVN.com. "He called me. He said 'Thanks for getting us on the cover of the Enquirer.' – and then he told me 'Tell 'em I taught you everything you know,'" Smothers adds with a laugh.
Markman hopes to have a distribution deal for Bad Influence, which also features Ava Vincent, Randy Spears, and Eric Masterson, in place by next week, and anticipates having it released by March.
The Sex Idol, a play off of Woody Allen's Play It Again Sam, where he plays an adult movie critic. Ron Jeremy plays his imaginary friend in the video. Venus plays the female lead and Cindy Crawford appears as well.
