Devil’s Film to Roll Out 2005 AVN Awards Show Two-Disc Set

Devil’s Film will release the special edition, two-disc DVD set of the 2005 AVN Awards Show nationwide on July 21.

The set includes the complete performances from the bands that energized the sold-out crowd at the Venetian Hotel ballroom on the night of Jan. 8, including Smashmouth’s “All Star,” Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy” and Chingy’s “Balla Baby” and “Right Thurr.” It also features the uncensored monologue from co-host Thea Vidale and hardcore clips from the award-winning scenes that were honored at the 22nd annual ceremony in Las Vegas.

The four hours of footage offers several bonus features, including the red carpet arrivals, behind-the-scenes, backstage access from the rehearsal and the show, a large photo gallery, the winning categories that weren’t given out on stage and a bonus scene from Digital Playground’s Best Hi-Definition release, Island Fever 3. As an added perk, AVN Awards show producer Gary Miller threw in a clip of Paris Hilton’s escapades from Red Light District’s Top Selling Release of 2004, 1 Night in Paris.

“You don’t see this stuff anywhere else except on the DVD. This wasn’t available on the Playboy TV show or anywhere else,” Miller said. “This DVD set has more high-end stuff than ever before. No expense was spared in the visuals or audio for this production.”

He added, “There are also bonus comedy segments that weren’t even shown at the AVN Awards. For the hardcore fan this is going to be something really good. It’s going to be a hell of a collector’s item for someone who wants to have an archive of the Awards Show.”

Some of the hottest stars in adult entertainment appear on the DVD, including host Savanna Samson and the night’s big winner, Jenna Jameson, along with Tera Patrick, Krystal Steal, Cytherea, Lauren Phoenix, Stormy, Janine, Ashley Blue, Julia Ann, Jesse Jane, Katsumi, Dani Woodward, Venus, Ron Jeremy, Lexington Steele, Steven St. Croix and numerous others.

AVN President Paul Fishbein said the two-disc set is broadcast quality.

“Last year was the first year we did the double disc and it went over really big,” Fishbein said. “What I like about it is we have these 22 hardcore clips on the DVD and all kinds of backstage stuff that you never get to see at the show. That’s why we had six cameras. It’s a big event. It’s sort of like a yearbook. I think it’s kind of fun to document the fashions, the hairstyles… you can see the progress of the people in the industry and the progress of the show.”

Fishbein said that what struck him most about the event was “how great the hosts were. How funny Thea was and what an amazing job Gary did at producing. It was a nearly flawless production.”

Vivid Girl Savanna Samson, who hosted for the first time in just her third year attending the show, told AVN.com, “It was such a great experience for me.”

“I was so thrilled to even be asked to host,” she said. “When I got the call, I was so surprised they would even think of me. And then when the nominations came out, I happened to be nominated for eight different awards. So it was very exciting.

“It was a thrill for me to work with Thea. She was hysterical and I enjoyed the whole process, from the pre-production meetings with Thea to the show. She wanted to get to know me so we would feed off each other. She was just awesome.”

Samson said she was looking forward to sitting in the audience for next year’s show knowing now what it’s like to be the host.

“I really enjoyed every moment of it,” she continued. “I felt special that night, standing up there representing the industry, especially with how much the industry went through that year with the HIV scare. For this one night, we put everything behind us and celebrated how great this industry is. I felt so proud to be up there.”

Vidale, meanwhile, recently screened the DVD for the first time, and said, “I’m excited about it more now that I’ve seen it.”

“I think everybody had fun. I know I did,” she said. “I’m amazed at how good it turned out. It was a lot of work. I was so focused on what I had to do. I was so glad they gave me the opportunity to do it and I would love to do it again. I had never done anything like this before, and it’s amazing how it came together.”

Bonnie Kail, director of sales for Devil’s Film who is the point person for all sales of the DVD, told AVN.com, “We’re very excited and I’m very happy that we were chosen to distribute it.”
