Democratic Sex Planned For Presidential Convention

Just when you thought you'd seen or heard the last of sex and the Democratic Party, along comes sex therapist Dr. Susan Block's Speakeasy Gallery, which plans to open a "new exhibit of political erotic art" it calls "Democratic Sex," on July 29, just in time for the Democratic National Convention here In fact, the gallery plans special showings during the convention itself between August 14-17.

The exhibit will feature works by Mario Saucedo, Skee Goodhart, Glenn Campbell (not to be confused with the country-pop singer), Tony Ward, Dennis Dutzi, Frank Rosazy, Tom Zimmerman, Lanning God, Doug Johns, Tomas Lane, Joseph Franklin, Penny Antine, and other artists.

Before you accuse them of partisanship, however, Block's own presentation "Hungry Republicans" will also be shown.

And if you happen to have created a little political erotica of your own, and would like to be part of the Speakeasy's Democratic Sex exhibition, contact Speakeasy curator Kim Mendoza at (213) 749-1330 or [email protected].

A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition is earmarked for activity on behalf of the bonobo chimpanzee of the Congo, which Block and the Speakeasy say face extinction in their native habitat.
