Darkside Entertainment owner Nicky Starks can testify to the commercial viability of the porn market’s “big black booty” niche. His In the Thick has just hit Vol. 14, making it one of Darkside’s most durable lines, and its sales, he told AVN.com, are “better than ever.”
"I always knew the In the Thick series would be a great line,” he said, “but like many adult titles I didn't really know how long it would last."
With Vol. 14 going out the door at “record-breaking numbers,” according to Starks, that particular niche seems to be holding its own and getting stronger.
In the Thick underscores the saleability of “big black booty” movies in general. Exquisite Multimedia’s Jerry Estrada recently told AVN that “anything with big black butts does excellent. It’s unbelievable.”
Exquisite’s first such title, Big Butt Brotha Lovers, spawned a whole, long-running series built around the attraction of ample African-American derrieres. EXP’s most recent release in this vein is Booty Juice 4, which just hit the street.
Over at Juicy Entertainment, sales chief Marty Turkel reported that the just-released Miss Phat Booty from In Depth Productions did “fantastic.” In that genre, he said, “if the box is good, it does well.”
Darkside’s Stark isn’t about to stop the flow. “I'm thinking seriously now about a Best of In the Thick as kind of a bonus for all our Thick fans,” he said.
