Marc Bruder of BRI Video which has the Dana Plato film Bikini Beach Race remembers this about the late actress:
Bruder: "It's so sad. She was so distraught and so unfocused. She was in one of our movies, and we took her to the VSDA. She shows up and she's tired and looks terrible. She in sweats [not the athletic variety]. My wife takes her shopping before she had to sign autographs - bought her a dress, got her to hair and makeup; had her nails done, took her out and bought her lunch then brought her in. She [Plato] said what a wonderful woman your wife is. No one ever treated her like that, she says. At the end of the end of three days of signing autographs, 9 to 10 hours a day, she says, well, who do I return the dress back to? My wife said keep the dress. She [Plato] said no one's ever done that for her. No one's ever been that sweet, and kind and helpful. It's just normal being a regular human being to somebody, I told her. She said, no, everyone's taken advantage of her - that she had a terrible life. She was very sweet. It's so sad."
The shocking news of Plato's death, plus her announcement to Howard Stern the day before she died that she was going to host Expo of the Extreme '99, prompted a check-in to the website, mikehuntsonfire for further details.
The expo will be held at Chicago's Riviera Theater [Lawrence & Broadway] and will feature porn stars and some of the biggest names in the underground culture. Bands from all over the world will also be performing on two stages. Call 773-847-7100 for more information.
