When Dale Jordan and Rick Davis were kids, they seemingly could never stay apart.
Where one went, the other was sure to follow.
“We’ve always hung around each other and always did things together,” said Jordan.
“It’s been like that since third grade.”
So it came as no surprise to many when Hustler Video tapped them to remake Jim Holliday’s Eye Candy, and Sorority Sex Kittens, where they would serve as each other’s cameraman and advisor on their respective projects. Jordan would direct Eye Candy, while Davis would helm Sorority Sex Kittens, both on Hustler's VCA label.
Jordan said his effort was made out of respect for the late director’s vision.
“I love what he did in these movies,” Jordan said.
“He always had great looking girls and great sex.”
Known for using nasty cheerleaders, sorority girls and slutty nurses, Holliday made his mark with a series of titles featuring hardcore sex with hot young starlets from the 1980s into the 1990s.
Keeping with Holliday’s penchant for using a slew of hotties, the new Eye Candy also features Cindy Crawford, Jenna Presley, Franchezca Valentina, Valerie Herrera, Jesse Summers, Cali Cassidy, Chloe Morgan and Leola Jossi.
“The great thing about working together is that we know what we like and when I shoot for him, I know the shot he’s looking for,” said Davis, who handled the camera for Jordan on Eye Candy.
Although neither director is exclusive to a studio, many have associated the pair with Cherry Boxxx and other studios.
“We just work a lot and people see your name enough with a company that they think you’re exclusive so they don’t hire you, but we’re not exclusive. We go where they hire us, basically,” Davis said.
Although he’s preparing to shoot Sorority Sex Kittens, later this month, Davis says he plans to keep much of Holliday’s vision for his updated remake.
“It’s going to have a better storyline and the sex is going to be hotter, but I want to keep a lot of what Jim did in his movie with the girls and comedy.”
The title’s plot involves a sorority house filled with slutty coeds who cross paths with the university president who wants them out of his school.
“We both feel fortunate that Drew Rosenfeld (head of production) at Hustler asked us to get involved in these projects and we also want to give people a little of what Jim Holliday brought to his movies,” Davis said.
It was just six years ago that Davis began directing when Cherry Boxxx owner Kevin Beech tapped him to direct one of his titles. Davis had worked in sales and had been looking to direct when he was approached.
Davis’ directing approach which showed off the girls’ figures as well as their hardcore technique helped solidify his reputation as a sought after director. He soon went on to work for Elegant Angel, Hustler, Combat Zone and others.
Jordan, however, joined the industry in the mid 90s when he worked with then Red Light District owner, Dion Giarrusso, who was drawn by his enthusiastic approach to directing hardcore.
“I’d been teaching people how to fight with martial arts when I got together with Dion, so I owe him a lot,” Jordan said.
By 2000, Jordan and Davis had joined forces and have been working together ever since.
