DVDs Seized in Raid on Australian Sex Shop

Authorities seized a large quantity of DVDs and videos in a raid on an adult store Wednesday. The Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at Club X, taking three hours to remove the items of interest, according to a recently published report.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Dooley told the Ballarat Courier that the raid was carried out because the DVDs and videos failed to comply with the Classification Enforcement Act of 1995, concerning the display and sale of X18 and R18 films.

The Enforcement Act regulates everything from exhibition of adult titles to their sale and delivery. The seized videos will be sent to the Classification Board in Canberra for examination.

"We believe the large quantity of DVDs and videos didn't comply with the Classification Act," Detective Dooley told the Ballarat Courier.

"They have to be officially classified by the board before we can lay any charges. I'm unable to say how long that process will be."

Charges have not yet been filed in the case, but the crime investigation unit has begun interviewing Club X employees.

Dooley would not say how the DVDs and videos were in breach of the Act. "We can't say at this stage. All we can say is we received information about films being displayed that didn't comply with the Act."
