DRUDGE HACKERS MAKE STOCK STRIKE

Just a day after nailing Internet maverick/gossip Matt Drudge's controversial Web site, the hacker group calling itself United Loan Gunmen hit another high-profile Web site - the NASDAQ/American Stock Exchange site.

They claimed to have taken the site over completely but apparently did nothing more than deface the home page. The home page hack imposed this text over the regular material: \n

United Loan Gunmen Take Control of NASDAQ Stock Market

By ULG

Just moments earlier, the Elite Computer Hacking group ULG (United Loan Gunmen) uprooted the NASDAQ Stock Market Web Site (www.nasdaq.com/www.nasdaq-amex.com/www.amex.com). Their goal was to attempt to make stocks rise drastically, thus making all investors happy, hopefully ending with the investors putting bumper stickers on their Mercedes (sic) that say "Thanks ULG".

Meanwhile, ULG members go back to flipping burgers at McDonald's.

ULG is often asked, "Why 'loan' and not 'lone'? 'Lone' is better." Well, we wanted to be different. Back to you, Bill.

(You can contact ULG for a short period of time at [email protected].)

ZDNet News says the fake page stayed only a few minutes before NASDAQ Web servers detected and removed it.

It's the fourth high-profile Web site to be hit by the group in recent weeks. It began with a hack on ABC's Web site and, last week, C-Span. On Monday, they took down Drudge Report. The group is also said to leak word of their attacks to Attrition.org, which is a security Web site.

But their actual motives and cause, if any, aren't yet known fully. And they're still leaving Web watchers wondering whose high-profile site will be the next target.
