DR. LAURA SUING SURF SHOP

She's talking tough about a local surf shop she says let young customers see pornographic material in the shop - but she's doing it in a lawsuit this time.

Radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger has sued the owner of Beach Access, accusing Tom Moore of slander for calling her a liar when he denied the accusation, the Orange County Register says.

Schlessinger's suit seeks over $1 million in damages. Moore's attorney says he's asked for a retraction on the air, calling the lawsuit a complete shock, the paper says. The attorney is also quoted as saying an Orange County jury wouldn't look kindly at someone "who defamed someone and then turns around and sues them."

The battle started in late July, when Schlessinger and her son visited Beach Access, where she saw a copy of a skateboarding magazine published by Larry Flynt Publications - who also publish Hustler. Schlessinger and Flynt recently fought a court battle over old photographs of her.

Schlessinger and her son left the store when Moore reportedly said he knew the magazine in question was connected to Flynt but he didn't think it was pornographic. On the air the following day, Schlessinger zapped Moore for putting Hustler in disguise of the skateboarding magazine in view of young people.

The Register says she never called Moore - who wasn't in the store that day - to discuss the matter. Schlessinger's on-air blast caused some angry contacts from fans to Moore and his store.
