DEATH FOR LIVE TV?

speaking weathercaster \nLONDON - If you can believe this, it's a "must-carry" cable television network with such gimmicks as topless darts, news bunnies, and a Norwegian-speaking weathercaster. But Live TV could be going off the air soon, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Trinity Mirror, which owns the network, and cable operator NTL are not commenting on Friday reports that Trinity plans to sell off its Live TV carrying contract for some US$24-32 million, the Reporter says.

Live TV, born in 1995, has been a money loser from the outset, but it was protected because of its exclusion from Independent Television Commission rules banning minimum carriage requirements, the Reporter continues. The journal says cable operators were obliged to pay Live for programming.

But Trinity Mirror said in April Live TV wasn't considered a core business and its downfall had been anticipated.
