DC Residents Protest Adult Store

WASHINGTON – Some concerned residents want a local adult store called the Fun Fair closed for good. Critics contend that the store is involved in criminal activity, including prostitution, drugs, and violence.

“[Clients are] having sex and selling drugs right under [my apartment] window all night long,” Mount Vernon Square resident Ruby Beane told WJLA News.

Other residents have gone beyond the alleged criminal element and are attacking the store for what they say is a violation of city codes; even organizing the aptly named Coalition to Shut Down Fun Fair.

Cary Silverman, a member of the coalition, told WJLA that, “the store does not have the correct license to operate and the neighborhood is not zoned for it.”

The group is planning a rally outside the store this week, demanding it close its doors.

According to the report, a spokesperson with the D.C. Attorney General's office said they are currently pursuing efforts to close down the Fun Fair after D.C. police confirmed there have been prostitution-related arrests made around the area.
