DARKLADY UP IN THE AIR

AVN and AVN Online contributor Darklady's motto is "morals tomorrow, comedy tonight." But her radio days are temporarily up in the air, so to say - the witty writer and commentator on sexual and other eclectic topics has lost her regular slot on KGUY-AM.

She says in an e-mail release that KGUY owner J.J. McKay decided "Radio Darklady" was "merely ego radio, serving no purpose to the community at large and with no real listenership."

She isn't necessarily taking it as an overall setback, though. "I choose not to see this as a failure but, rather, as an opportunity to think beyond conventional information resources," she says.

Darklady had attended the Consumer Electronics Show and AVN Adult Video Awards in Las Vegas, discovering on her return to Portland that her radio show had been canceled.

"It's all very frustrating," she says, "but I am heartened to know that many have and continue to support the goal of 'Radio Darklady': to provide intelligent, respectful, and informative, and entertaining coverage of local and national celebrities, issues, and information regarding sexuality and eclectic entertainment."

She says she contacted McKay to confirm her removal but got no response, while communicating with those close to KGUY "indicates a systemic problem regarding finances and a number of loud arguments over the fate of 'Radio Darklady,' with J.J. being the sole voice of opposition." She also says advertisers trying to buy time on her show found "repeated difficulties" doing so.

For now, Darklady is looking into Internet Webcasting and preparing demonstration tapes for other potentially interested radio stations, including Los Angeles KLSX-FM, which she says has asked to hear the show for its Web lineup.

"Hopefully," she says, " 'Radio Darklady' will soon find another home, on either standard radio airways or the Internet."

Her writings will continue appearing in AVN, AVN Online, and Fetish, as well as the Larry Flynt Digital site. (www.seanhartgrove.com). And, you can visit her Web site at www.darklady.com.
