Curveball '99 a big hit

Curveball '99 (http://www.curveball99.com/), the second annual adult industry softball game established by Rayne to benefit the charity Self Awareness for Disabled Americans, was held Sunday at Blair Field (http://www.longbeachstate.com/local/facilities/baseball.html), the home of the Cal State Long Beach baseball team.

The participant check-in area featured an official-looking sign saying "No video or digital cameras allowed. No flashing or nudity. Violators will be ejected" and the stars involved followed the directions. In other ways, the porn stars were true to form, fixing their make-up and smoking cigarettes in the dugout.

Among the participants: Janine, Cara Lott, Maren Beautté, Valentino, Bill Margold, Nancy Vee, Chris Cannon, Alexandra Silk, Luc Wylder, Sean Michaels, Cherry Mirage, Teddi Barrett, Scotty Schwartz (wearing a "Ron Jeremy" jersey), Misti Hills, Sky, Alec Metro, Angela D'Angelo, Christi Lake, Alyssa Haven, Elizabeth Starr, Sharon Mitchell, Bionca, Brittany Andrews, Brittany O'Connell, Herschel Savage, Sonja Redd, Ron Jeremy (also wearing a "Ron Jeremy" jersey) and umpire Ed Powers.

Before the first game, Alisha Klass and Seymore Butts played catch near the first base line, with Klass a bit erratic in her throwing. A local cable-TV newsman, in coat and tie, was un-jacketed, de-tied, and had his shirt unbuttoned by interviewee Holly Body, encouraged by provocateur Dave Cummings. The stands were well-filled, with half the 3000 seats occupied.

The manicured baseball diamond, with its 90-foot basepaths, worked against the amateur players. It's a true test of skill for a motivated pro baseball player to beat out a bunt to first: It's much more difficult for a porn star. The only way for players to get on base was to hit long flies, which was proven by Seymore Butts in the first inning of the first game when he hit a long shot to left field for a double.

The two four-inning games were both won by the Blue Team, including a 14-1 shellacking in the nightcap.

Fans Greg Guy of Long Beach and Craig Sauer of Irvine read an ad in the sports section and came to see the stars. "I was hoping something weird was going to happen," Guy said. Dave Kapp of nearby Redondo Beach came out "to support a good cause, and see my friends play softball. It's a beautiful day for it."

The after party was held at Live Bait, a bar near the field. At an awards ceremony, Rayne said she did not know a total amount raised, but "it's a fuckin' lot." She thanked sponsors VCA and Great Western Litho; and particularly thanked Live Bait for not charging a club fee for the party, and giving all the door receipts to SADA.

Awards were given in these categories:

Inspirational Player: Red Team, Alisha Klass; Blue Team, Nakita Ka$h.

Slugger: Red Team, Seymore Butts; Blue Team, Scotty Schwartz.

A special award was given to Holly Body and Seymore Butts for a particularly injurious play that had both of them sprawled on the basepath between first and second.

Most Defensive Player: Red Team, Misti Hills; Blue Team, Scotty Schwartz.

Most Valuable Player: Red Team, Misti Hills; Blue Team, Rayne.
