Court Adds Copyright To SCO Suit

A federal court has allowed SCO Group to add copyright infringement claims to its lawsuit against IBM over Linux technology. "The Court, therefore, finding good cause shown hereby grants SCO Group's motion for leave to file amended pleadings," wrote U.S. Magistrate Judge Brooke C. Wells, in a February 25 ruling that could hike up potential damages to $5 billion.

IBM told the court it would not oppose the addition of the copyright claims, but that did not mean it agreed with the claims. IBM has made its own court filing calling the SCO copyright allegations without merit. SCO Group has accused IBM of sharing trade secrets involving Unix and letting part of SCO's Unix V system get into the Linux open source operating system.
