China Implements Reward System For Porn Informing

Now China’s crackdown on Internet porn and other “unhealthy” Web sites has a reward system for squealers.

The government passed rewards up to $350 October 10 to people reporting Web sites they consider pornographic, with individual rewards ranging between $80 and $350 according to the state news agency Xinhua.

This was the latest turn in a crackdown that began over the summer and has now resulted in over 445 arrests and over 1,125 Web sites closed down with the help of public tips, Xinhua said, pointing to Ministry of Public Security figures.

The ministry did not disclose how many people received the rewards.

The porn and “objectionable” content crackdown also includes the Communist government blocking access to foreign based Web sites considered porn or sociopolitically subversive, and orders to television stations, digital game makers, and other popular culture suppliers to cut down or do away with sexual or violent content.
