California Exotic Novelties intends to design all of their electronic items to be waterproof from here on out, in recognition of the consumer demand for that feature. Approximately 20 percent of the company’s current catalog of electronic devices is waterproof.
While modifying items that weren’t originally designed to be waterproof would be cost prohibitive, Susan Colvin, the president and founder of California Exotic Novelties, intends to add the necessary gaskets and seals to make all future devices waterproof.

“Since the release of our first waterproof product, the response has been overwhelmingly favorable,” said Colvin in a statement to the press. “Almost immediately, our customers encouraged us to increase our production. So, in an effort to satisfy our customers and offer them additional waterproof options – we have fully committed ourselves to the research, design, production and release of a wide variety of waterproof products.”
Cal Exotics director of marketing Al Bloom notes that besides the obvious reason for buying a waterproof novelty – using the novelty in water – there’s another reason that’s just as compelling for consumers – waterproof items are easier to clean.
Cal Exotics has produced over 100 new waterproof-specific toys. Some of the popular waterproof products currently offered include the Mini Stimulator, EZ Bend Stud, Silicone Passion Flower, and the Moisture Activated Penis, which isn’t just waterproof – it’s activated by water.
“The Moisture Activated Penis basically creates a closed circuit when it touches water, operating as a switch,” Bloom told AVN.com “ You could just wet your finger and it turns on, or the when it’s inserted the wetness there will operate the device as well. It’s an interesting new way of turning a toy on.
The Moisture Activated Penis will be released in May, with an SRP of $24.95.
