Caballero Releases New Batch of Film Classics on DVD

Claiming that “classics are becoming a monumental force in the adult industry once again,” Caballero has released 25 new titles from its feature film catalog, all never before on DVD and cut from new digital masters. Street date is March 30.

Dick Lane, Caballero’s VP of sales, told AVN.com, “The classics never go out of style. They rent, they sell, because they feature stars, production values and sets unheard of today. Beautiful women, all natural. They are quality personified.”

The new batch brings Caballero’s classic DVD inventory up to 200 titles. They also have 18 DVD 4-packs that concentrate on one star or director, like Seka and Andrew Blake, or a particular niche (nurses, coeds, voyeurs, blondes). “They seem to move a lot, they reinvent themselves,” Lane said. Ten more will be coming out in April.

Star power, Lane feels, is what sets the movies of 20 years ago apart from those of today. Among the big names in Caballero’s March release are Tracey Adams, Colleen Brennan, Annette Haven, Nina Hartley, Georgina Spelvin, Sharon Mitchell, Christy Canyon, Jesie St. James, Rhonda Jo Petty, Kelly Nichols, Joanna Storm, Hyapatia Lee, Erica Boyer, Taija Rae, plus Harry Reems, John Leslie and Eric Edwards on the male side.

The 25 March movies come mostly from the early 1980s, when Caballero was a leading feature film producer. “It was a golden era of movies,” Lane said. “There never has been an era like this, and there never will be again.”

A sampling of March titles includes Flasher, Getting Personal, Good Girl Bad Girl, Heaven’s Touch, Legacy of Lust, Let’s Get Physical, Shades of Passion, Women at Play.

Caballero, Lane said, is preparing a 60-minute promotional DVD, hopefully ready by April, of excerpts from a dozen classic movies with high-power stars. It can also be used as a giveaway bonus for customers. “Stores that specialize in adult can run it on a monitor in their back room,” Lane said.

Lane has been encouraging his customers to open up Classic sections in their stores, or in their mail order catalogs or Websites. “Build it and they will come,” he promised. Caballero is preparing special “starter” racks they will make available to retailers.
