Gay video company Grey Rose Productions has created a new ethnic line, Buck Naked Pictures, to celebrate the emerging, changing black male in gay erotica, company partner/producer Chris Meister announced today.
Three-year-old Grey Rose, which produces fetish, genre, and bear videos, created Buck Naked to offer audiences "something they have rarely seen in erotica: videos where African-American men are living large, in charge, and making love together in non-traditional and non-stereotypical ways," stated Meister in a press release.
Grey Rose partners Graylin Thornton (producer/director) and Meister (producer/performer) believe their new company will open doors, change stereotypes, and appeal to an under-represented audience of men who love watching black males have sex together in erotic videos.
Thornton, who is African-American, said, "We are creating this new line to serve the audience that is tired of seeing the rare black performer in a gay porn video. And even if you do see a black guy, you only see him briefly or never in any significant way."
Meister, who is white, wants Buck Naked Pictures to employ a wide spectrum of black performers. "You'll see the superstars like J.C. Carter and Austin Black, but one of our missions is finding new talent."
Whether newcomers or veterans, one thing all Buck Naked Pictures stars will have in common, say the partners, is that they will be "strong and assertive black men who love sex. Our videos will not be about stereotypes or negative images."
"In slave times, of course," Thornton explained, " 'buck' referred to the biggest, blackest male slave. The 'buck,' who was often made to work in the fields naked, was also used for breeding purposes." Thornton and Meister have used this charged term in their new line's name in an effort to empower their performers. " 'Buck' still means male strength," said Thornton. "It's okay if some people don't like the term. The point is that what was once a negative is now a positive."
Thornton and Meister believe videos with an unflinching minority point of view will also appeal to an audience, black or white, hungry for black men having sex with other black men. Meister added, "Of course, we might sometimes throw in the occasional token white guy!"
The partners point out the work of Lexington Steele, a star and producer of straight black porn. "We would love to bring the quality of his work to the gay audience," said Thornton. "His videos are sexy, erotic, fun, and beautifully shot."
The first Buck Naked Pictures video is set to shoot in December. According to Meister, the as yet untitled video will be a gonzo-style feature that explores the unrestrained lust and passion between a group of black male friends. Casting will be announced shortly.
Grey Rose is aiming for an early spring release of Buck Naked's first title.
