Book on Holmes

Laurie Holmes' proposed book about her late husband, porn legend John Holmes, gets some advance hype in the February 15 edition of The National Enquirer. Two episodes receive particular airing - one detailing Holmes' alleged year-long affair with the late Juliet Prowse; the other involving an alleged tryst with Hugh Hefner when Holmes was down and out and needing cash. However, The Enquirer quotes a Hefner spokesman as saying that Hefner never met Holmes and spoke to him on the phone once shortly before he passed away. Through his publicist, Hefner says, "He [Holmes] told me he needed money and wanted to sell a ring he felt was worth quite a bit of money. I told him I wasn't interested." Laurie Holmes, on the other hand, says this in The Enquirer piece: "John never told me exactly what kind of sex he had with Hefner. He just told me they had sex together in the late '70s."

As far as the Prowse episode goes, The Enquirer article tells about a time Holmes was supposedly in bed with Prowse only to have her husband come home unexpectedly. Holmes, who was supposed to have slept with 14,000 women, supposedly jumped from the bed naked and ran out into the terrace with his clothes in hand. As Holmes stepped into his pants, he heard gunfire and felt a "searing pain" in his leg, the impact of which hurdled him over a terrace rail. Holmes made it to his car and got to a hospital only to pass out on the steering wheel horn. Holmes was awakened by two cops and told them he was a stunt man in a movie and his gun accidentally went off. According to The Enquirer piece, Prowse's husband would later deny the incident, but they were soon divorced after that.

Playing it evasively coy, the only thing that Laurie Holmes would say to geneross.com, at least for the moment, is that she anticipates this being a dynamite book. "We're just making a bigger and better book," she said. "And that's my comment. Hollywood, watch out." Holmes would not say when the book was expected to come out.
